MDOT hosts Smart Roadside demonstration
At the invitation of Mississippi DOT (MDOT), agencies from multiple states visited the Orange Grove weigh station in Mississippi to witness a demonstration of MDOT's recently installed Smart Roadside electronic screening systems.
The demonstrations included both a fixed screening system installed at the weigh station and a mobile unit installed in a customized sprinter van. MDOT's automated electronic screening systems include license plate readers, USDOT readers and Thermal Inspection systems.
During the demonstration, 11 trucks were pulled in for inspection; 100% received violations.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) held a press conference on December 4, 2010  on U.S. 49 South in Richland to demonstrate the implementation of IIS' Smart Roadside System equipment. The system is recommended by the federal government to screen commercial vehicles, allowing enforcement officers to focus on carriers with low safety ratings and out-of-date credentials.

New Mexico's Department of Public Safety has been recognized for its use of Intelligent Imaging System's Smart Roadside Inspection program. The Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) America selected the Motor Transport Police Division as finalist in the Innovative Practices category of the 2010 Best of ITS Awards.
"Smart Roadside brings the power of multiple information systems to the roadside to enable the automated pre-screening of vehicle in motion," said Maj. Cordova.

During ITS Canada's 13th Annual Conference in Ottawa, the ITS' Larger Metropolitan Area or Provincial/ Federal Category prize was awarded to Alberta Ministry of Transport, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch, for their Thermal Imaging Inspection Program.

New Mexico's Department of Public Safety Motor Transport Division has begun deploying a statewide Smart Roadside Program to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its roadside operations. Smart Roadside is Intelligent Imaging Systems Inc's. revolutionary Smart Roadside Inspection System.

The Alberta Transportation Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch conducted a pilot project from March 2004 through to January 2005 , which utilized the Intelligent Imaging Systems Inc. Thermal Inspecton System van, to study the impact of thermal imaging observations on commercial vehicle operations. The result were so encouraging that Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch has purchased further equipment.

ITS-NY has announced the 2009 Project-of-the-Year Winners at its Sixteenth Annual Meeting in Saratoga Springs, NY. The winning projects highlight the use of ITS technologies to improve the mobility and safety of NYS travelers, enhance the efficiency of NYS transportation network and modes including public transportation, and provide positive environmental and energy benefits to NYS. These outstanding projects also have a high degree of multiagency coordination and collaboration.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE OPERATIONS - The Comparative Assessment of Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) Technology Study performed by Project Team Members NYSDOT, the I-95 Corridor Coalition, the FHWA, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and Clough Harbour & Associates assessed various WIM technologies, an important integrated component of roadside commercial vehicle electronic screening (e-screening) based systems. Since most commercial vehicle electronic screening safety operations involve numerous statewide e-screening sites with many roadside devices costing significant monies, this study assessed WIM technologies based on real world, field based evaluation.
IIS supplied the automated License plate reader for this project.

Florida's DOT, Office of Motor Carrier Compliance was awarded the 2009 award for "Best New Innovative Products or Services" at the recent ITSA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Alberta’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch (CVEB) Thermal Imaging Unit in its first full year of operation scanned approximately 22,000 commercial vehicles, singling out 1,000 for closer inspection. IIS delivers a Mobile Integrated Safety and Security Enforcement System (ISSES) to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KTC). The mobile ISSES will allow KTC to meet both their Highway Patrol (HP) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mandates. This new addition compliments KTC existing ISSES program, making the state of Kentucky a national leader for using leading-edge technology in their efforts of saving lives on their highways.

IIS was a presenter at the Transportation Border Working Group (TBWG) workshop held in Detroit, Mich. IIS featured the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) as a new technology for data collection.

The TBWG was formed in 2001 by Transport Canada and the U.S. Department of Transportation to increase the coordination between the U.S. and Canada on transportation along our shared border. Its mission is to facilitate the safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods across the Canada-U.S. border. IIS collected and provided CMV time travel data using our Time Travel Measurment System (TTMS) and ALPR Technology to the Bureau of Intelligent Transportation Systems and Freight Security (BITSAFS) at the University of British Columbia. This data was used in their report to Transport Canada on the "Benefit Assessment and Quantification of Electronic Screening at Weigh Stations in British Columbia". BITSAFS leads the research and development of intelligent transportation systems in the province.
